Hai Van Pass-Lang Co Beach is recognised as one of central Vietnam’s major outstanding attractions. The Hai Van Pass (means Ocean Cloud Pass) is about 21km stretching from Thua Thien Hue Province to Da Nang city along the slope of Hai Van Mount. It is considered an important natural wall blocking wind from the north. So Da Nang City and the provinces from Quang Nam province to southern Vietnam have warmer weather and no winter season.

Whenever one crosses the Hai Van Pass (the top of which is 500m above sea level), also known as “De Nhat Hung Quan” (which means the most colossal frontier post) two feelings are experienced. Amazement at passing through the clouds and excitement when seeing how much the road bends and winds. For many centuries, the Hai Van Pass has been a source of inspiration for Vietnamese and foreign writers, poets and photographers.

Lady Buddha pagoda, famous for the Goddess of Mercy statue, faces the Eastern Sea. On the left is Cham Island, to the right is the Hai Van Pass. The pagoda was built on 12 hectares of land on Son Tra Mountain. It symbolizes belief and the nation. It marked the development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the 21st century.

TOUR INTRODUCTION

Starting point: La Siesta Resort & Spa

Da Nang is Vietnam’s fourth largest city, a major international gateway and port. The city originates from the ancient Champa kingdom.

Our tour introduces you to key sites and the city’s history. Highlights include Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son), Linh Ung Pagoda, which houses the Lady Buddha Da Nang statue, the Hai Van Pass and Lang Co Beach.

ITINERARY

Depart from the Resort by car. The first stop is at Marble Mountains. This is a famous pilgrimage site composed of a cluster of five marble and limestone hills named after the five natural elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Climb up and discover many caves, pagodas, shrines and temples. The mountains are located in a coastal area renowned for stone cutting and sculpture, 10km south of Da Nang.

After Marble Mountains, we take the route northwards following the coastal road to the Son Tra Peninsula. Here we visit the gleaming white Lady Buddha Da Nang overlooking the city, the tallest Buddha statue in Vietnam, which is located inside the Linh Ung Pagoda. This is the famous Quan Am (Goddess of Mercy) statue, which faces the Eastern Sea. On the left is Cham Island, to the right is the Hai Van Pass. Linh Ung Pagoda occupies 12 hectares of land on Son Tra Mountain. It symbolizes belief and the nation and marks the development of Vietnamese Buddhism in the 21st century.

Following lunch at a traditional local restaurant, we continue our trip heading northwards and join the 21km long Hai Van Pass along national highway 1. This pass, which means Ocean Cloud Pass, is one of central Vietnam’s major outstanding attractions and the highest pass in the country (500m above sea level). It winds like a giant dragon stretching from Hue to Da Nang City and it is considered an important natural wall blocking wind from the north. Therefore, Da Nang and the provinces from Quang Nam province to southern Vietnam have warmer weather and no winter season. For centuries, the Hai Van Pass has been a source of inspiration for Vietnamese and foreign writers, poets and photographers.

From the pass, we descend to the village of Lang Co and the white sands of Lang Co beach. Then, we return southwards to Hoi An and back to the Resort where our tour ends.
